In measurement and control, there are power supply grounding systems, analog signal grounding systems, and digital signal grounding systems. In order to eliminate mutual interference between different systems, the ground of each system should be separated. But ground and grounding are different concepts, and here ground refers to the common reference point of the system. And what people often say about grounding is to fix the “zero potential” by grounding the common point. Grounding is for safety and prevention of danger. In production sites, the grounding system is mostly grounded nearby. If there is more than one grounding point, a grounding circuit will be generated, and current flowing through the grounding circuit will also occur, which will cause coupling interference problems.

As shown in Figure 1, there will be a potential difference between ground point A and ground point B, and there will also be a current. This interference signal will be mixed with useful signals, which is the first type of interference signal. If the shielding layer of the signal line in Figure 1 is grounded at both ends of the signal source and secondary instrument, the induced current of the shielding layer will be coupled to the signal line through the distributed capacitance between the shielding layer and the signal line. This interference signal is mixed with the useful signal, which is the second type of interference signal. To eliminate the second type of interference, the first step is to avoid creating a ground circuit. Grounding one end of the shielding layer can achieve the goal, that is, the signal source and signal shielding wire are only grounded at one point to disconnect the ground circuit, as shown in Figure 2. Although the common point of the secondary instrument is connected to ground point B, it will not form a ground circuit. At the same time, floating measures are taken at the input end of the secondary instrument to the ground to isolate the signal line of the secondary instrument from the casing, which has a better effect. These methods can basically prevent the generation of ground current interference.
Figure 2 Schematic diagram of grounding at one end of the shielded wire
When grounding at one point, it is also important to choose a grounding point. For shielded wires, the grounding point should be close to the entry point of the shielded induction circuit, as shown in Figure 2. If point B is a high-level electric field and point A is a low-level electric field, to avoid interference from high-level electric fields on low-level electric fields, the grounding point should be as close as possible to the entry point of low-level A.
If the signal line is shielded, it should be grounded near the interference source. In short, the principle of grounding is to try to prevent the induced current on the shielding layer from flowing into the signal line to avoid introducing interference. If the grounding is connected to the input terminal of the secondary instrument, the induced current of the shielding layer may flow through the signal line to introduce interference. But if the grounding point is connected to point A, as the shielding layer and signal line are considered equipotential, no current flows through the signal line. 32110 HIMA DO digital output
For long-distance transmission of signal lines, due to the length limitation of a single wire, there may be wiring issues with extension wires. In this case, the continuity of shielding should be ensured, that is, the use of junction boxes should be avoided as much as possible. If a junction box is necessary, the shielding should be as close as possible to the signal terminals, and the exposed signal line length should not exceed 20mm. At this time, the shielding layer should also be connected or welded using terminals.
