The impact of generator loss of excitation on the system mainly includes:
1. Low-excitation and loss-of-excitation generators absorb reactive power from the system and cause the voltage of the power system to decrease. If the reactive power reserve in the power system is insufficient, the voltage of some adjacent points in the power system will be lower than the allowable value, which will destroy the stable operation between the load and each power source, and even make the power system voltage collapse and collapse.
2. When a generator loses excitation, due to the voltage drop, other generators in the power system will increase their reactive output under the action of the automatic adjustment excitation device, thus causing some generators, transformers or lines to overcurrent, and their backup protection may misoperate due to overcurrent, thus expanding the scope of the accident.
3. After the loss of excitation of a generator, due to the swing of the active power of the generator and the drop of the system voltage, it may lead to the loss of step between the adjacent normal operation generators and the system, or between the various parts of the power system, causing the system to oscillate.
4. The impact of generator loss of excitation on the generator itself mainly includes:
1. Due to the slip after the loss of excitation of the engine, the differential frequency current appears in the generator rotor circuit. The differential frequency current will cause loss in the rotor circuit. If it exceeds the allowable value, the rotor will overheat. In particular, the thermal capacity margin of large units with direct cooling and high power rate is relatively low, and the rotor is more prone to overheating. The differential frequency current on the surface of the rotor may also cause serious local overheating or even burns on the contact surface of the slot wedge and retaining ring of the rotor body.
2. After the loss-of-excitation generator enters the asynchronous operation, the equivalent reactance of the generator decreases, and the reactive power is absorbed from the power system. The greater the active power before the loss of excitation, the greater the slip, the smaller the equivalent reactance, and the greater the reactive power absorbed. After loss of excitation under heavy load, the generator stator will overheat due to overcurrent.
3. For large turbogenerators with direct cooling and high power rate, the maximum value of the average asynchronous torque is small, the inertia constant is also relatively low, and the rotor is also significantly asymmetric in the longitudinal and transverse axes. Due to these reasons, after loss of excitation under heavy load, the torque and active power of the generator will oscillate violently and periodically. For hydro-generators, due to the small maximum value of the average asynchronous torque and the asymmetry of the rotor in the longitudinal and transverse axes, a similar situation will occur when the generator is operated under heavy load. In this case, there will be a large or even exceeding rated motor torque periodically acting on the generator shaft system and transmitted to the base through the stator. At this time, the slip also changes periodically, its maximum value may reach 4%~5%, and the generator will periodically and seriously overspeed. These situations directly threaten the safety of the unit.
4. During loss-of-excitation operation, the magnetic leakage at the end of the stator will increase, which will overheat the components at the end and the iron core at the side.
