Woodward is a leader in the design and development of specialized control systems for tilt rotor aircraft applications. Woodward utilized most of the technology developed for flight control and hydraulic components of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, and is the main supplier of the two tilting rotor platforms used in today’s flight – the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey and the Bell Agusta BA-609.
The V22 drive components include:
Main and backup hydraulic drives for controlling the position of tower conversion actuators
The rotor positioning device (RSP) is used to correctly adjust the scale of the rotor blades before folding them
The fuel detector control valve is used for deploying and retrieving refueling detectors during flight
All V22 components operate at a hydraulic system pressure of 5000 pounds.
On the BA-609, Woodward provides a complete bridge tower conversion system (PC), including a pair of PCAs and upper wings operated by position synchronous torque tubes. PCA (BA-609) is a telescopic ball screw actuator driven by an electric hydraulic servo control hydraulic motor gearbox.
