Woodward is a leader in the design and development of specialized control systems for tilt rotor aircraft applications. Woodward utilized most of the technology developed for flight control and hydraulic components of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, and is the main supplier of the two tilting rotor platforms used in today’s flight – the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey and the Bell Agusta BA-609.
The V22 drive components include:
Main and backup hydraulic drives for controlling the position of tower conversion actuators
The rotor positioning device (RSP) is used to correctly adjust the scale of the rotor blades before folding them
The fuel detector control valve is used for deploying and retrieving refueling detectors during flight
All V22 components operate at a hydraulic system pressure of 5000 pounds.
On the BA-609, Woodward provides a complete bridge tower conversion system (PC), including a pair of PCAs and upper wings operated by position synchronous torque tubes. PCA (BA-609) is a telescopic ball screw actuator driven by an electric hydraulic servo control hydraulic motor gearbox.

The Woodward Thrust Reverse Drive System (TRAS) has been in use since the 1960s and has been found in over 20 variants of large commercial, regional, and commercial jet aircraft, including certification for Far 33rd and Far 25th parts.

The Woodward Thrust Reverse Drive System (TRAS) has been in use since the 1960s and has been found in over 20 variants of large commercial, regional, and commercial jet aircraft, including certification for Far 33rd and Far 25th parts. Woodward, as an industry leader in TRAS, has been developing and manufacturing TERS for new aircraft projects.
The thrust reversal drive system provides power and control for the deployment of aircraft thrust reversers, optimizing aircraft operational safety by minimizing runway stopping distance. Woodward utilizes his engineering and manufacturing expertise, as well as extensive technology, to design, develop, and manufacture TRAs.
In order to form a business system, TARA includes key components, including:
Electric hydraulic control valve with operating pressure status indication and manual suppression mode
Hydraulic, electro-hydraulic, and electromechanical hood locks and three-level locks with lock status indication
Hydraulic actuator with electronic position feedback, guide screw synchronization and locking status indication
Synchronous system, synchronizing multiple pod shawl actuators
Manual drive device, allowing non hydraulic, manual deployment of thrust reversers for maintenance activities

Woodward can produce practical actuators with many different forms of factors, including long stroke linear actuators, rotating actuators with various outputs (such as cable wrap pulleys or sprockets), and obstacle wire actuators. Woodward developed unmanned aerial vehicles for the application of multiple fixed wing aircraft. These systems can include everything from flight control to wingtips, such as flap levers, flap actuators, and electronic controllers. If the application requires it, we have the ability to include repetitive fault mechanisms, as these mechanisms are common in Wood’s design of manned aircraft secondary flight control and practical drive applications.
