ABB ACS380 is a high-performance fully compatible mechanical transmission with reliable performance and simple integration.
The power range is 0.25-22KW, which is applicable to various industrial applications and environments, including printing, packaging, pharmaceutical, electronic and electrical, logistics, textile, rubber, plastic, building materials, food, beverage, tobacco machinery, water industry, etc. The whole series of built-in Modbus RTU communication. This article mainly introduces the ACS380 Modbus communication function.
1. Hardware interface
Remove the outer cover plate, and the gray terminal on the right side is RS-485 interface

Control macro set to Modbus
Or set parameters directly (take scalar control as an example)

3. Notice for communication
The data exchange between the master station and the frequency converter includes two parts: circular communication and non circular communication,

CW: control word, used to send start, stop, reset and other commands;
SW: status word, monitoring status, such as whether there is a fault;
REF1/2: given value
ACT1/2: actual value
Data input/output: parameters 58.101~58.114 are mapped to Modbus holding register addresses 400001~400014
Acyclic communication can directly read and write the Modbus logic address of the parameter.

4. Communication realization
In order to more intuitively introduce the Modbus communication of ACS380, the ModScan is used as the Modbus master station to test it

40,001 Write 047FH to start the frequency converter; 40002 is written to 4E20H (decimal 20000), and the frequency converter operates at 50HZ; The actual value of 40005 act1 is 4E20H;

Speed setting
40002 is written to the given value, and the reverse is written to the negative value. The conversion relationship is as follows:

For example, under scalar control, the 46.02 parameter defaults to 50HZ, which means that 50HZ corresponds to 20000,
That is, 20000 is written to 40002, and the inverter outputs 50HZ.
