What is PXI? PXI is a computer built for test engineers. It is also a test and measurement platform that integrates the controller and measuring instruments in a multi-slot chassis. The chassis is the “skeleton” of the PXI system, equivalent to the mechanical housing and motherboard of a desktop computer. It can power the system, provide cooling functions and communication buses, and synchronize instrument modules. Depending on the size and form factor, the chassis can be equipped with 4 to 18 slots, so whether you need a portable, desktop, rack-mounted, or embedded system, the PXI chassis can meet it all.PXI controllers are available in both embedded and remote options. The embedded controller contains everything you need to run a PXI system without the need to connect to an external PC; Remote controllers, on the other hand, allow you to control PXI systems from a desktop, laptop, or server computer. Choose the controller that best meets your needs, with embedded controllers offering higher performance and remote controllers being more cost-effective.
NI offers more than 600 input and output PXI modules ranging from DC coverage to mmWave. These include modular instruments such as oscilloscopes and digital multimeters. PXI is an open industry standard with nearly 1,500 products currently available from more than 60 different instrument vendors
